The Different Shirt Styles For Men
Most men have a few dress shirts in their wardrobe for a variety of situations. These shirts are separated into 3 unique styles:
Athletic Fit - This style has been growing in popularity over the last several years. With its sleeker fit, it gives the wearer a very urban look and a more contemporary style. Most companies sell these sharply tapering shirts as "slim-fit", and though originally found in the nightclub scene, they have become increasing popular as a replacement for the more traditional business shirt, especially with men who are more slightly built. These shirts have long been a popular part of such clothing lines as Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss, but can also be found in today's market in such chain retailers as Banana Republic and Superdry.
Modern Fit - The modern fit describes a shirt that is semi-fitted, possessing a somewhat tapered look. This look has been around in some form or another for many years, but the technical "modern fit" is a relatively new addition to men's fashion. Most guys with an average build or a slight variant thereof will look impressive in this style of shirt and it is ideal for virtually any occasion. Whether out on the town for a romantic date night, dressing up for a formal event, or heading to the office, the modern fit dress shirt will deliver the perfect look.
Classic Fit - This is the traditional men's dress shirt, found in department stores and men's retailers across the country. Though this design has long dominated the market, it has seen a decline in recent years with the introduction of the modern fit into the department store and discount locations. With almost no tapering, this shirt is much roomier and more comfortable then the other designs. There is definitely more freedom of movement with this shirt, making it a popular choice for men who have a larger build. Despite its drop in popularity, it still remains the best option for the big and tall man or someone who may need a more formal appearance.
If you are not sure what style would fit your build and look the best it may be wise to stick with the classic fit, however, next time you are out shopping for shirts, at least try on some of the other fits, as you may find that you like them better.
